    Broken by Fire
    By Marshall Jones

The fire has refined me into pure gold
I see nothing close to pain from my past
I used to be broken, but love has washed over.

Walked the earth hidden, scarred from nightmares sold,
shadows cast as darkness has made me crass.
The fire has refined me into pure gold.

Remnants of a life trashed by mold,
I kept pressing knowing one day I’d crash.
I used to be broken, but love has washed over.

The structures I build barely grow,
so I have nothing but a life lived too fast.
The fire has refined me into pure gold.

Search nothing for substance, I’m weak and cold,
shattered happenings and hope rarely clash.
I used to be broken, but love has washed over.

On picnic benches, I heed what I know,
Can’t believe I traded freedom for cash.
The fire has refined me into pure gold,
I used to be broken, but love has washed over…….
