Incarceration, Addiction and Homelessness. What they have to do with foster care, and how we can change outcomes?

In the United States we incarcerate 1.6 million people. From that, over 1.2 million are believed to be former foster youth. That is around 70-75% of all incarcerated individuals have spent time in foster care. When we look at the overall outcomes of the child welfare system, it becomes increasingly clear that it remains at the heart of many social issues and concerns in our Nation.

Across the country, local, state and federal governments are spending billions of dollars on incarcerations, addiction and homelessness. In addition, private businesses are having difficultly finding and keeping employees and at the root of it all lies childhood adversity and trauma.

This guest offers fresh solutions that focus not just on the problems but on SOLUTIONS that can be used to promote healing within our country.
